Waxing

Waxing is the use of heated waxes & resins that are applied to the skin and allow the temporary removal of superfluous hair by the root.

What can it do for you?

Waxing is a form of semi-permanent hair removal which removes the hair from the root. New hair will not grow back in the previously waxed area for four to six weeks, although some people will start to see regrowth in only a week due to some of their hair being on a different human hair growth cycle.

How does it work?

There are many types of waxing suitable for removing unwanted hair.

Strip waxing (soft wax) is accomplished by spreading a wax thinly over the skin. A cloth or paper strip is applied and pressed firmly, adhering the strip to the wax and the wax to the skin. The strip is then quickly ripped against the direction of hair growth, as parallel as possible to the skin to avoid trauma to the skin. This removes the wax along with the hair.

Strip-less wax (as opposed to strip wax), also referred to as hard wax, is applied somewhat thickly and with no cloth or paper strips. The wax then hardens when it cools, thus allowing the easy removal by a therapist without the aid of cloths. This waxing method is very beneficial to people who have Sensitive skin . Strip-less wax does not adhere to the skin as much as strip wax does, thus making it a good option for sensitive skin as finer hairs are more easily removed because the hard wax encapsulates the hair as it hardens. The strip-less waxing method can also be less painful.

Frequently asked questions:

What do I do before waxing?

Before waxing drink plenty of water and take an Ibuprofen to help ease any inflammation and pain. The hair should have at least two weeks of hair growth (1/8th of an inch). If you have thick coarse hair, you can gently exfoliate before your wax using a loofah mitt to help release hair from skin. Exfoliate using a backward circle motion against the hair growth.

What should I expect during waxing?

The wax will feel warm and depending on your level of sensitivity may even feel hot for a brief second. The wax will be applied and you should help by holding your skin taunt. The tighter you hold your skin the less pull you will feel when the wax is removed.

If it is your first time waxing, you will feel it and it will be uncomfortable. The treatment will be over before you know it. Also keep in mind, after the first time it won’t be as bad. With our clients we have amazing results with 50% less hair and thickness after just the first wax. So the next wax is less painful!

What do I do after waxing?

You may feel a little sticky! Your skin may be sore and feel like sunburn. This is all very normal. You should book your next appointment for 4 weeks out to maintain the wax and really see the benefits. You may be a little tender and may not want to do any heavy exercising.

What are the benefits of waxing?

The hair becomes finer taking up to 4 weeks to grow back. It will also become more sporadic and eventually parts will not ever return. Waxing also helps with ingrown hairs and razor burn. Waxing is much cleaner compared to shaving and leaves no stubble.

Also, your skin will feel super soft and smooth… even when your hair is growing back. Waxing won’t itch or irritate your skin as the hair is growing in.
